With his Compressioni project, Paolo Ullian has conceived a new way of shaping metal, a method that reveals an unusual expressiveness. The fruit bowl is first made on a lathe, then compressed to obtain the final shape. Test after test it becomes clear that the deformations caused by crushing the semi-finished product are a relatively controllable variable. The folds created in the lower part of the bowl are almost magically arranged in geometric patterns – squares, pentagons, hexagons and octagons – giving a charming regularity to the unique differences of the elements.
